Team 6: Dickon, Dominic, Tim and Praveen from Torquay.
The sixth quest of Series 4 was for the Crown and lasted 54 minutes.
Level 1
From the Place of Choice, Dickon successfully steps off the disc onto the path of the Crown.
At the castle entrance, they encounter Dooris.
Treguard: "This weeping egress is a spellbound door. It's been locked with lies, and can only be opened with the truth."
The team scores 3. Dickon leaves via the drawbridge.
Hordriss the Confuser is conducting an experiment with some potions. He asks Dickon to help him teach Brother Mace a lesson.
Hordriss: "Recently, this Mace has shown one a remarkable dearth of respect. And so it's necessary to show him the error of his ways with a little 'trick'."
Dickon must convince Mace that one of the warlock's potions is 50-year-old Etruscan brandy. Hordriss allows him to retrieve the Eye Shield.
Through the Forest of Dun, Dickon arrives at a tavern. Pickle terms it 'The Crazed Heifer'.
- Pickle: It's a notorious gathering place for thieves and fellow travellers.
- Treguard: "Inns like this are dubious places, but information and supplies can be found here."
Inside, Mellisandre the Maid looks after Dickon. Since he has no silver, they have to trade knowledge.
She tells him that Oakley's son is called 'Little Acorn'.
Fatilla the Hun is hiding in Oakley's glen. He eyes up the kill, but Oakley frightens him away.
Once Dickon tells Oakley his son's name, the tree troll becomes more amiable. He hints they should take the horn instead of the silver.
The team moves onwards to the remains of Dungarth.
Treguard: "The Opposition sacked Dungarth many years ago but still maintains a freelance guard on the place."
Dickon blows the horn to evade four goblins inside the ruins. The Eye Shield takes him to safety.
Fatilla the Hun emerges from behind the wellway, anticipating revenge. The team convince him to take the horn, and he lets Dickon descend to Level 2.
Level 2
Dickon lands on a table. He takes a tablet from a bowl labelled 'Downers'.
Treguard: "These things can certainly be consumed, but they're certainly not food in the usual sense."
The next chamber has a very small exit. Dickon takes the tablet to shrink himself.
Beyond this exit, he finds some pills labelled 'Uppers', so he returns himself to full size.
Motley the Jester is in the pillory. He offers to be Dickon's guide through Level 2 once he is released. He leads Dickon out as an ogre strides in.
They encounter another Weeping Door, Doorkis (score: 3). Motley is not amused by its misery.
Motley: "What a drag! I wish someone would give it a pill and shut it up... On second thoughts, it is shut."
Into a square ledge above a pit. Gundrada spots them trying to sneak past.
Motley's attempt to make small-talk backfires and he runs off. Dickon apologises for him.
Gundara escorts Dickon to the edge of Dunkley Wood, where she abandons him.
But Dickon soon finds her again, munching on food in Ariadne's Lair.
She flees as the spider enters. The giant arachnid follows her.
That was lucky. It looks as though Ariadne has decided that Gundrada makes a better dinner than Dickon does...
Dickon escapes back into the forest, where Brother Mace is sat at a table, bemoaning the lack of strong drink.
Dickon tempts Mace to try the 'Etruscan brandy'. He explains the green colour is caused by its 'vintage'.
Undeterred, Mace drinks the brandy and turns into a lizard!
Treguard: Let's hope for the monk's sake it was only a joke.
Dickon proceeds to the bank of the Dunswater. He gives the boatman silver in exchange for crossing.
At the other side, he enters the Tower of Time and descends a long staircase to Level 3.
Level 3
Dickon emerges on a high platform, between two red stones. It's a transporter pad puzzle.
A sequence of platforms leads down to an exit at the bottom.
Dickon manoeuvres by side-stepping in the intended direction of travel and back to the centre.
The team avoids the platform bearing a sword-wielding knight and reaches the bottom safely.
Applause all round!
Into a circular room. Dickon collects a bottle of poison.
Hordriss appears, congratulating Dickon on his fulfilment of the pact.
Hordriss: "You may be relieved to hear that Brother Mace has suffered no lasting effect from the 'Etruscan brandy'."
He grants Dickon two spells: FIRE and OPPOSITE.
Another circular room, which leads onto a moving conveyor belt.
A sorceress appears, introducing herself as Malice.
Welcome to my kingdom, for Malice is now the undisputed queen of the lower levels...
She asks Dickon if he wishes to become one of her subjects. The team decides to humour her and agree. She disappears.
Treguard: "The quest is about making choices. One's own choices."
Onto the conveyor belt - it's the Corridor of Blades.
Dickon is light on his feet and moves from wall to wall quite easily, avoiding the blades.
Onto a narrow bridge. The face of Malice appears.
This time, she wants guarantees of Dickon's allegiance.
Malice: "I'm not so sure I trust you... So, pledge yourself and your endeavours permanently to me alone."
This time, Dickon refuses. In retaliation, she fires a bolt at the bridge.
Malice: "I see you have survived blades. Let's see if you can survive a fatal fall."
The team usher Dickon on quickly and pass to the other side before the bridge collapses.
Into another circular room. Malice's face appears large. Her patience has ran out.
ENOUGH!
