Skarkill, the Goblin Master

By Keith McDonald

Skarkill was Lord Fear's first goblin master. Slimy and intimidating, he led the efforts to capture dungeoneers during a two-series run.

Skarkill the Goblin Master was Lord Fear's main henchman for two series. He was under orders to end every quest.

He patrolled the dungeon with two goblins, Grippa and Rhark, and acquired a hobgoblin known as Tiny.

You! Stay there while we get the irons on ya.

Skarkill

Susceptible to bribes

Skarkill was intimidating and dangerous, though he was much more subservient in Lord Fear's presence.

He wore an eye patch and shabby chainmail. He also liked to clap his irons and growl the phrase, "Lovely!"

Skarkill was a menace but rarely put up much of a fight. Sometimes he could be bribed if a team was carrying gold or anything else he wanted.

Alternatively, teams could use a weapon or a spell to summon Pixel, Sir Hugh, or Gwendoline the Greenwarden. Even the diminutive cavern elf Elita can get rid of him.

Skarkill does claim one victim, when the dungeoneer is carrying a goblin horn instead of gold.

The opportunist

Skarkill was always full of excuses for failing to catch dungeoneers.

In Series 5, he blames his goblins and asks for a hobgoblin. He can’t control it and wants magic to subdue it.

In Series 6, the hobgoblin damages Skarkill's leg. He spends more time around Mount Fear, eventually tending to the new red dragon.

Series 6 Opposition - Lord Fear and Skarkill

Towards the end of his tenure, Skarkill angers Lord Fear by threatening to strike if he doesn't get paid waiting time. He claims the request comes from the goblins, but Fear isn't deceived by it.

He is then injured further by the end-of-series finale, and the character is not seen again.
