The dungeon kitchen was a welcome stop-off in Level 1 during the early series of Knightmare.

It was a good opportunity to meet characters and collect food or information.

Kitchen dwellers included the jesters (Folly and Motley), the maids (Gretel and Mellisandre) and the crones (Mildread and Mrs Grimwold).

Chef's colours

The kitchen is more active and homely in the second series.

The fire is usually blazing, scattering warm colours across the room. A large dresser along the left wall gave the sense of a functioning kitchen.

Folly the Jester also attempts some cooking on one occasion, covering the floor with flour.

In Series 3, the oven is not lit, which makes the Tudor-style wooden beams more pronounced. The dresser is also removed, allowing space for a third door.

Spaceward sampling

The visual effects that made the same room look so different year-to-year were added by the Spaceward computer.

Equally, the various props could be sampled over the top the main artwork, allowing them to be removed or adapted.

Therefore, the dresser and the logs for the wood stove are easily removed for the third series.
