Knightmare on The Game Show Story

By David Goldstein

Knightmare appeared in ITV series Come On Down! The Game Show Story.

The fourth and final episode, shown on Sunday 31st August 2014, had two brief Knightmare clips.

The first was of dungeoneer Simon's infamous sidestep to his left in Series 4; the second showed Series 3 dungeoneer Douglas standing in front of the serpent's tongue.

The Serpent's Tongue, based on a handpainted scene by David Rowe, as shown on Series 3 of Knightmare (1989).

Both clips were intended to illustrate the changing face of game show technology. Knightmare was not named in presenter Bradley Walsh's narrative.

While fans who cherish Knightmare's place in game show history might have hoped for more, it's worth pointing out that Knightmare was one of only two children's game shows that made it into The Game Show Story, the other being BBC's The Adventure Game.

Episode 4 of The Game Show Story can be watched on ITV Player until the end of September. The previous episodes of the 4-part series are (were) also available.
